CHRONOLOGIE
:
Le
Commencement :
- 3664 :
Sons of Thunder break with Diamond
Sword, Abniyn flees with followers aboard an old FTL freighter.
- 3668 : Abniyn flees 'sworder
holdings
Abniyn, philosopher and student of
the Enlightened master begins to fear for his life after a number
of very controversial debates among his peers in regards to his
beliefs about the immortals and the nature of diety. His own followers
begin to be looked down upon and Abniyn makes plans to leave the
holdings of the Diamond Sword after he has a dream warning him of
his own death. His last few months among his brothers are fraught
with danger but the number of those who begin to reject the traditional
views of honor, creation, and the afterlife in favor of Abniyn's
more diestic philosophies grow to an alarming number.
Finally, just barely escaping the inevitable
arrest and trial of himself and his sons Abniyn flees with a large
portion of his proselytes aboard an outdated freighter purhcased
and prepared in secret. Risking death at the hands of Diamond Sword
naval security the refugees make a desperate flight from the 'sworder
holdings. They stray from the more populous shipping routes and
dissapear into the vast uncharted lanes, but their ship is under
equiped, overcrowded and in disrepair.
- 3691 :
Second FireTruce. No word has
reached any of the Tribes as to the fate of Abniyn and his followers.
- 3708 : The Fall of Abniyn
After fourty four years of running
and hiding, scavenging for equipment and the barest neccesities
of life the refugee followers of Abniyn finally come to rest. The
stop is not of their own choosing however, as their ship finally
rots away into lifelessness and they drift for the final months
of their voyage into an unhabited system a few light years from
the trailing end of a terminal fray. Food supplies run desperately
short, even moreso than what had become the norm for the survivors
of the past decades, and disease begins to work among the outcast
believers.
Finally, in desperation, the crew manage
to force a crash landing onto the only habitable planet in the system.
It is a watery, unhospitable world, but it is their only hope. The
ship manages to hold together through the atmospheric entry and
lands realatively softly in a boggy swamp. Many are injured or die
in the crash, but the most crushing blow comes when Abniyn himself
drowns while attempting to rescue a family trapped in a hull section
below the water level.
- 3708 : The Long Night
The survivors turn to Abniyn's sons
Ko l'Yah and ShodaYah, now respected men in their own right and
each of strong opinions, to lead them in recovering from the disaster.
At first all goes well and the people manage to scrape an existance
out of the marshes and wetlands surrounding the crash site. The
two brothers though begin to fight amongst themselves as to how
to carry out their father's vision and the people polarize between
their two points of view. Tensions escalate until finally ShodaYah
leads a band of hot headed young men away from the main encampment
to begin their own dwellings.
Both groups are plauged by problems,
both in dealing with the environment and the native wildlife and
in making what refuge they can salvage suffice for their industrial
needs. It does not take long for the fight to survive to cause added
tension between the two colonies and raids for resources, squabbles
over land rights and arguments over doctrine eventually erupt into
full scale conflict. Historians will later call this time The Long
Night, for it almost meant the end of the people who would one day
call themselves Tsayadin.
- 3812 :
After 104 years of internal strife
the tribe emerges from the darkness under the leadership of The
Achavah. ShodaYah and Ko l'Yah have brought peace to the troubled
refugees and they are born anew as The Hachil. Their two ideals
can now coexist, but the peace is a costly one, with only one third
of the former population left alive.
- 3822 :
SoT engages in their first extra tribal
battles, raiding Blood Eagle colonies and installations for supplies.
While proving technologically handicapped, they display physical
and tactical superiority to their opponents.
- 3823 :
The Achavah deems technological equality
to be the first priority and begins offering to hire SoT forces
out as mercenaries in exchange for goods and technology.
- 3824 :
The Diamond Sword become the first
to hire out the Tsayadin warriors, causing a great deal of dissension
within Sons of Thunder culture. In the end however practicality
wins out over bitterness and SoT forces begin contracted raids on
Blood Eagle supply lines.
- 3841:
The Sons of Thunder formally declare
their independence at the Fifth FireTruce. In team competition
they stun their opponents with unconventional tactics, but are sorely
embarrassed in single combat where their medium and heavy armors
prove woefully inadequate.
Maux
de Croissance :
- 3844 :
Diamond Sword hires the Sons of Thunder
to help in a series of border skirmishes with the Blood Eagle.
- 3847 :
Qerach's Rebellion: Qerach, Bishop
of the 15th Resheph declares himself Harabec returned, and much
of his company follows him as he attempts to resettle the planet
Delta Equus III, which he renames Peth'torah, or NewLaw.
- 3848 :
The War of the BaqaMeth, or Broken
Truth, begins.
- 3850 :
Tsirah finally apprehends Qerach and
his inner circle and redeems them to the truth by bringing them
to the Nequah.
- 3858 :
A vision given to the Ko l'Yah convinces
the Achavah to cancel all further contracts with the Diamond Sword.
- 3860 :
The first special forces unit within
the SoT is formed. They begin with several classified mercenary
missions hired out by the Children of the Phoenix.
- 3881 :
Under the employ once again of the
Diamond Sword the Sons of Thunder suffer massive losses to the Blood
Eagle in Delta Equus.
- 3895 :
Swelled by large numbers of proselytes
gained in the Delta Equus conflict, the Second Active Duty Cuphah
(great storm) is commissioned under the command of Angel Harac.
- 3920 :
Tsayadin forces strike Diamond Sword
supply caches throughout the Theta Draconis system. Rumor
spreads that they are under the employ of a Diamond Sword splinter
faction.
Le
Règlement de Compte :
- 3930 :
The Starwolf hire the SoT to carry
out raids on Blood Eagle holdings. The Tsayadin technology
now proves equivalent to that of their opponents. Hardier
troops and clever tactics help offset the numerical superiority
of the Eagle.
- 3932 :
Cardinal KarrowYah looses his wife
to a surprise Blood Eagle raid on an SoT temporary post on Hepta
Orubis III. He vows to destroy the Eviscerator Talon which
took from him the only earthly treasure he had ever known. He quickly
gains popular support despite orders from the Achavah that he be
brought to trial, and much of his Tsa'ar joins him. In seclusion
he plans his next move.
- 3933 :
In an unprecedented surprise attack
KarrowYah invades the heavily fortified moon of Cormallen with his
500 man Tsa'ar in an effort to irradicate the Eviscerator Talon.
The attack marks the first time the SoT had attempted a planetary
scale invasion, and catches the Blood Eagle defenders completely
off guard. In spite of heavy losses KarrowYah overruns the
Eviscerator defenses and leaves the Talon decimated. In the
end only a portion of his troops remain, but KarrowYah returns home
not as a prisoner but a decorated Hero. A few months later
the Wolfslayer Pennant is disbanded by the Blood Eagle for "political
reasons."
- 3934 :
KarrowYah is elevated to the rank
of Apostle, and given command of a refreshed Shôw which he
immediately sets to training on the desert moon of Meggido.
- 3935 :
Pascha and his enitre 10th Bazaq are
lost while en route to a training manouver. Their spindleship's
last transmission is an S.O.S. from within a severe fluxstorm. The
ship and it's passengers are presumed destroyed.
- 3936 :
Although the Sons of Thunder remain
officially neutral in the Blood Eagle - Starwolf conflict, the 18th
Tsa'ar accepts and carries out a number of contracted assaults on
Blood Eagle holdings. Most notable among these is a foray against
Circle of Ire holdings in which the bulk of this faction's warriors
are dispatched to the Final Jump and the remnants scattered so that
no member of the sub-tribe is ever heard from again.
- 3939 :
SoT forces, secretly hired by the
Imperial Legate, strike at Children of the Phoenix supply lines.
In return they are given Imperial technology and lunar mining colonies
in Alpha Serpentis.
In the month of Burning Swan Exorcist
Pascha returns to Miqdash with the remains of the 10th Bazaq aboard
a captured Blood Eagle spindleship. Only himself and three other
members remain, but they bring with them the tattered armors of
two hundred Carrion warriors as well as the weapons and ammo of
several holdfasts. They claim that though the price was high, the
Burning Dead faction was eradicated and their holds razed as an
incense offering to Phoenix.
Refiners
Fires :
- 3940 :
Phoenix Wept
:
In the final months of the Meggido
training program an unidentified invading force establishes a
beachhead on the moon and begins the systematic destruction of
all facilities present. KarrowYah and his forces, suffering
some 20% casualties retreat to the Alpha Serpentis system, razing
every inch of ground left behind to ensure the security of other
Tsayadin holdings. Survivors from the disaster report enemies
that seemed "unnatural" and in some ways altogether inhuman.
Rumors of Imperial influence abound, but the Achavah will release
no definitive information.
Chained Breath
:
After only six months in which to
rebuild and retool their forces, the 8th Shôw under the command
of Apostle KarrowYah muster on a campaign to invade and capture
the Gorgon Killer world of Rachel's March. The Achavah are silent
about this independent action but there are whispers of dissent
among many within the Tsayadin command structure.
Cobalt Orb
:
KarrowYahs forces arrive at Rachel's
March to discover that the defenders have been warned of the imminent
assault. The fighting is no more intense than expected but the
Gorgon Killer defense is staunch and grows stronger with each
retreat from Tsayadin troops.
- 3941 :
Shadowed Suns
:
After an impressive campaign of domination
the Tsayadin forces arrive at last outside the last bastion of
Gorgon Killer defenses near Agriane Holdfast. Advance scouting
reports from earlier in the invasion inform them that there is
very likely a HERC presence and during the first hours of the
last battle for Rachel's March the Sons of Thunder discover the
truth of the reports. Two of the metallic mosters push back their
assault. Later that same day, the 17th of Suns, Bishop Pascha
is slain by a sniper shot from a Tsayadin traitor. Inquisitor
Nabterayl is subsequently field promoted to the rank of Exorcist.
Jaguar's Hunt
:
CLASSIFIED
Eagles Oath
:
The forces of 8th Shôw finally overrun
the last bastion of GK defenses and claim the whole of Rachel's
March as their own just in time for the start of the Firetruce.
Gorgon Killer reinforcements, assembled too late, cannot arrive
before the first of Phoenix Wept and are diverted to a nearby
system to lie in wait for the end of the 'Truce and an oppourtunity
for retaliation.
Wolf's Passage
:
Inquisitor Nabterayl, in an unprecendented
move, is named Speaker of the Seventh in place of the deceased
Ignatz Belzner. The reasons behind such an appointment and why
both the Triad and the Phoenix Prime would agree to such a replacement
are unclear at best. KarrowYah and his honor guard, along with
Speaker Nabterayl arrive on the world of Bella Omega in preperation
for the Seventh Firetruce. The political manouvering between the
Tribes has already begun, and controversy erupts early over both
the Starwolf / Blood Eagle conflict and the recent invasion of
the Gorgon Killers by the Sons of Thunder.
Phoenix Wept
:
The Seventh FireTruce has arrived,
the Children of Phoenix are in turmoil after the loss of their
Phoenix Prime, and the Scourge long battled by the Empire has
entered the wilderzone and all but decimated the massing forces
of the Starwolf. Over 150 thousand warriors, and countless civilians
and support personell were slaughtered and now the tale of Great
Tribes is reduced to three. The Tribes of Man are on the horizon
of a new Dark Age and the Sons of Thunder prepare themselves for
what could be a new Long Night even more devestating that the
one that shaped them into the tool of Harabec which they have
become. Truly Phoenix must weep for his people, and for all the
residents of the wilderzone, but the Sons of Thunder have tasted
of the Refiners Fire once before and will endure it again if necessary....
HISTOIRE
:
The
Background :
The Sons of Thunder
is a Starsiege: TRIBES Independent Tribe which was founded in August
of 1998, during the development process for the game. The founders
were avid fans from the beggining, living for every tidbit of
info they could squeeze from the Dev Team when members would show
up in IRC, and downloading every screen capture they could manage
to fit on their Hard Drives. In November, as their HTML skills,
and time for foolishness blossomed, the SoT webpage was finally born.
It has undergone several minor modifications in organization since
it's brith and two location moves but by and large it maintains the
same navigation and look that it started with.
The Tribe itself,
and its members have been active participants in the Tribes community,
in the message boards, chat rooms, through fiction, email, and gameplay,
since the beggining. Our goal, and our hope, is that we can
enrich the Tribes experience not only for ourselves but also for those
that we come in contact with through the building of relationships
and the nuturing of the ideals of community that Tribes was designed
and built upon.
The Sons of Thunder,
often reffered to among themselves and in their correspondence as
Tsayadin, are a mature role playing oriented group of gamers.
The centerpiece of our Tribal culture is not the respective skills
of our members at blowing each other to shreds, but rather their skill
at working together and maintaining strong friendships within our
community. It has often been observed that many of our members
spend as much time chatting together as they spend playing together.
Due to the Role Playing
nature of the Tribe, we are often found conversing "in character"
and using phrases and references from our culture that might be confusing
to outsiders. This is a result of our strong storyline, the
continually growing fiction centered around and written by members
of the Tribe. We value this storlyline as our heritage, and
our actions in game as well as in chat rooms and msg boards are often
directly linked to it's history and mysticism.
The
Mystique :
The Tsayadin follow
a strict moral and spiritual code, laid down by their Patriarchial
leader(s), The Hachil. The Hachil is the political and spiritual
leader of this Theocratic tribe and his council, The Great Achavah,
is the ruling body of Tsayadin Society. Their word is law to
the people and they are all revered as holy men and women; most especially
The Hachil.
The Sons of Thunder
believe that The Hachil is the modern day spokesman of Harabec, and
that through the mouth of The Hachil, comes the revealed will of Harabec.
It was the father of The Hachil, Abniyn, who first had a vision from
Harabec telling him to lead a chosen people away from the quarreling
of the Great Tribes to be trained for special purpose. Through
much hardship and continual heartbreak the Tsayadin have been molded
into the people they are today, the Hand and the Voice of Harabec
himself to his wayward children throughout the Wilderzone and one
day within the Old Empire itself.
Tsayadin are constantly
immersed in the spiritual nature of their culture. Observance
of feasts and festivals is of utmost importance, as is continual prayer
and meditation. All members of the society are required to serve
a term of service every five years until they should be discharged
for medical reasons, be awarded a commision to enter the priesthood
full time, or become a local or regional Achavah representative for
the Artisian Communities.
The
Organization :
The Sons of Thunder
society is made up of a somewhat different caste structure than most
Tribes in that it is composed of only three well defined groups.
The Career Military members are those Tsayadin who after at
least one tour of duty elect to extend their service to full time.
They become after a certain period, eligible to hold political office
and sit as judges over the people as part of a Local or Regional Achavah.
The Priesthood
are those who gain such commission from their tsedek (commanding officer)
by right of outstanding spiritual insight or leadership. The
priests are responsible for record keeping, the maintainence of sacred
scrolls, temple grounds, and administration of feasts and festivals.
Some members of the priesthood return to active duty to serve as officers
and ministers to the active duty troops. It is from among this
small group of active duty priests that the highest ranking officers
are ussually chosen. The ranks of Cardinal, Apostle, and Angel
should only be held by those Tsayadin who have demonstrated the greatest
aptitude in both military and priestly matters. Those priests
who do not return to service are subject to a very strict heirarchal
system that appoints various leaders to the available positions in
the regional and local Achavahs as the need arises, or as politics
demand.
The Artisian
Guilds are the heart and soul of the various Holdfasts of Tsayadin
territory. The Guilds administer all of the necessaries of society
including farming, trading, and government services. All those
members of society who do not elect to be carrer military, and do
not receive commissions into the priesthood, are guildsmen when not
on active duty. The guild to which one belongs is established
by both desire and proficiency. Leadership in a local or regional
Guild is a hard thing to achieve and is based often times as much
on political proficiency as on leadership capability. Those
that do achieve such high status though are elected by their peers
to positions on the local and regional Achavahs on a quarterly basis.
The
History :
Abniyn was a faithful
follower of the Enlightened Master in the early days of the Diamond
Sword. He was ambitous and eager to learn, but headstrong in
a way that disturbed his Mentor. As doctrinal disputing within
the sworders ranks grew, Abniyn became one of the most outspoken debaters,
often putting opponents to shame with his eloquence and confounding
philisophical questions. When at last his strong willed nature
brought him into direct conflict with the Enlightened Master himself,
he knew his time among the Sworders was running short.
Following instructions
given to him by Harabec in a vision, he gathered those followers of
his that wished to escape the growing heavy hand of the Master and
boarded an old freighter with them, leaving the Diamond Sword holdings
behind forever. For several long years he and his followers
traveled, avoiding the major space lanes, and often times leaving
the Hyperweb behind altogether to travel to uncharted and unsettled
systems. At last, with their ship suffering and in need of repairs,
the wanderers crashed on the remote world of Miqdash.
During the crash,
while trying to save as many of his people as possible, Abniyn drowned
in the muddy waters that enveloped half of the ship. The wreckage
sank into the muddy floor of the swamp in which it had landed, and
left a portion of the ship above the ground, standing like a sentinel
over the fog choked marish. His followers left without their
spiritual leader turned to his two sons Ko l'Yah, and ShodaYah for
direction. Each had remained submissive to their father's direction
as he lived, but now a fierce quarel broke out between them over the
outworking of the doctrines he had laid down. Thus the doctrinal
war that would be called the Long Night began.
At last, after the
two brothers finally came to a resolution on the sacred Mountain of
Bazaq the war was over and the two sects of Tsayadin life were born
anew as a whole. The brothers, acting to unify the people, proclaimed
that their beliefs were not mutally exclusive, but represented two
parts of a whole, and to symbolize that, they would rule the tribe
together as one man, and thus they became The Hachil. They formed
from among their generals and laborers the first Achavah, and set
about the building of the tribe that would be the Sons of Thunder.
Centuries later, after
hiring themselves out as mercenaries for other, larger tribes, and
sending missionaries to the vast numbers of tribes now inhabiting
the wilderzone, the Sons of Thunder have come into their own.
Under the leadership of such charismatic and forward thinking men
as Apostle KarrowYah and others, the Tsayadin are striking out into
the Wilderzone, making sure that the Message of Harabec is not neglected
or maligned among the Tribes of Man.
